OPEYEMI BAMIDELE ON THE QUEUE WAITING TO BE ACCREDITED
The Labour Party, LP, governorship candidate in today’s election in Ekiti State, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele has said that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, had prevailed on him to withdraw from the race.
This is even as a chieftain of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in an article he authored and published on Saturday, described the lawmaker as an ‘unripe fruit’ in reference to Bamidele’s decision to dump APC in order to actualize his governorship ambition on the platform of LP.
According to Tinubu, under whom Bamidele served as a commissioner in Lagos State during his tenure as governor, the LP candidate let his “unbridled ambition get the better of him”.
Had he exercised patience, Tinubu said his former protégé would have gained “the requisite experience and knowledge” which could have prepared him to “become a decent candidate in time”.
But Bamidele, while refuting the claim that he has stepped down for either the APC or PDP candidate, expressed optimism that he would win the race.
After accreditation on Saturday, the Labour Party candidate said, “in the last five days, I have been under tremendous pressure from the All Progressives Congress, APC, as well as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and their candidates”.
He said “the truth about it is that I consider it as the normal thing to do. It is a three horse race and I am sure every political party would strategise. I guess it’s been an attempt but by the grace of God, I am very much in the race. I am convinced that by the grace of God, I am the candidate to beat in this election”.
