The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. (Mrs). Modupe Alade has called for more attention to the well-being of women.
Mrs. Alade who made the call while receiving representatives of the Ekiti State Chapter of the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) who paid a courtesy visit to her office in Ado Ekiti, said that the call was crucial in view of the role of women in nation building which she described as unquantifiable.
Reiterating the commitment of the Fayose led administration to gender equality and women empowerment, the SSG stressed that Governor Fayose holds women in high esteem and would support any initiative that would improve their lot.
She assured of her continued support for the School Outreach Programme initiated by FIDA noting that it was designed to ensure proper mentoring of school children in the state.
Mrs. Alade however stressed the need for women to properly equip themselves in order to compete favorably with their male counterparts.
Earlier, the State Chairperson of FIDA, Mrs. Rita Ilevbare had lauded the appointment of a woman as the Secretary to the State Government by Governor Fayose, describing the gesture as an obvious display of his commitment to gender equality.
Highlighting the achievements of FIDA so far in the state, Ilevbare said her association with parliamentary support from the state House of Assembly, had rendered legal support for over 90women and children, provided social and medical support to over 12 people, organized schools outreach programmes and embarked on advocacy visits as well as organized sensitization programmes on the rights of women amongst other numerous services rendered to the society.
