Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has said that his administration is bequeathing a virile, professional and dynamic civil service that would serve as the main driver of sustainable development to the incoming administration in the State.
The Governor said this in Ado Ekiti on Thursday during the inauguration of eight newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in the State that the civil service would serve as the bastion of institutional memory in order to ensure that the strides of the present and previous administrations would become a leverage for successive governments.
Dr Fayemi stated that the Civil Service Transformation Strategy Policy was conceived by the present administration with a view to repositioning the Stage Public Service in line with international best practices. “We thank God that we can now look back at our efforts with pride, knowing that our good efforts in the development of the State have not been in vain.
I am particularly glad that as this administration is transiting out, we are bequeathing among other legacies, a virile, professional and dynamic civil service that would serve as the main driver of sustainable development to the new administration,” he said.
The Governor while explaining that the appointment of the new bureaucratic heads was not only to fill the vacancies that exist but also to strengthen the service asserted that his government has sought to address the malaise of mismatching staff with job functions without regards to individuals areas of competence.
Fayemi who described the processes leading to the appointment of the Permanent Secretaries as consistent with the “ethos of restoring meritocracy to the civil service” charged them to be honourable in their “dealings, decisions and be worthy role models for the younger generation of bureaucrats”.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Mr. Banji Ojo commended the State Government for insisting on due process and merit in appointing them; saying that if it were the era when appointments were based on godfatherism, many of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries might not have made it.
Ojo pledged the allegiance of the appointees to the Government and people of Ekiti State; saying that they would not betray the trust reposed in them.
The Fayemi-led administration has so far appointed 37 Permanent Secretaries since its inception in 2010.
The new Permanent Secretaries are Engr Sunday Komolafe, Mr Jide Owolabi, Mrs Grace Fadipe, Mrs Bisi Akindele, Mr Banji Ojo, Mr. James Ale, Mr Stephen Adunmo, and Mr. James Folorunso.
