Former Kaduna State Governor and chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 is impossible, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost the confidence of Nigerians.
El-Rufai made this known in an interview shared on social media platform X, where he argued that anyone entertaining the idea of Tinubu’s return to office “must be living in another country, not Nigeria.”
“Anybody that thinks it is possible for President Bola Tinubu to get re-elected is living in another country, not Nigeria. It is impossible for Bola Tinubu to get re-elected,” El-Rufai said.

The former governor, who was a key ally of President Tinubu during the 2023 elections, insisted there is no political pathway left for the president’s return to power, stressing that even the weakest opposition could unseat the APC government in 2027 due to widespread public dissatisfaction.
“I don’t see a pathway for him,” El-Rufai maintained.
His comments come despite repeated assurances by the Tinubu administration that current economic difficulties will ease soon. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, recently highlighted the administration’s efforts to stabilize the economy during an interview on Channels Television.
El-Rufai, however, dismissed the impact of high-profile defections to the APC, describing defectors as “greedy and hungry politicians” seeking personal gains such as contracts, appointments, or protection from prosecution by anti-graft agencies like the EFCC and ICPC.
“It is greedy and hungry politicians and those that are looking for money, contract, appointment, office that are defecting,” he said.
“The other class of those defecting are those that know that the EFCC or ICPC can intimidate them because they know what they have done if they have done what is not quite right.”
He further revealed that the SDP, along with other political groupings, is working to form a formidable coalition to challenge the APC in 2027.
“We believe that the 2027 elections will be between the APC and Nigerians,” El-Rufai added.
El-Rufai is reportedly working alongside other prominent political figures, including former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as part of the coalition aiming to unseat President Tinubu through the ballot in the next general elections.
