The recent killings of two African-American men by white police officers in America has continued to generate reactions from the world over.
Earlier, Cynthia Morgan wrote a lengthy piece to emphasize the fact that Black Lives Matter.
Now, rising pop star, Toby Grey has also shared her thoughts on the recent killings.
In her words, ‘I’m amazed by the news on violence I see being uploaded on social media everyday. It’s become so bad that it’s almost normal for us to see or read at least one story of someone being brutally murdered somewhere in the world. The other day I read of 3 boys abroad that ganged up to kill a 17yr old Nigerian girl. Hold on, it’s not only Nigerians that are being killed. Blacks generally, the rate of these brutal murders are outrageous. I don’t think I’ll ever understand why!
‘Few hours ago I watched a clip of a black vendor selling CDs on the street and was shot 6 times to the chest. Ok guys! I don’t know what the law says about street vendors or whatever but I’ll really love to know if it’s written in the books that an unarmed man be shot onsite if he’s caught selling on the street’.
‘My only logical conclusion is that the white police man shot the vendor without thinking twice because of course he was BLACK. God gave life not man. Unfortunately It’s always been about white supremacy! Black or white, no one deserves to be treated that way. The more we hammer on the fact that #blacklivesmatter the more people begin to be more aware that we are not OGUFE (goat meat) or chickens to be slaughtered at will. Something needs to be done’.
In a series of tweets, singer Emma Nyra also spoke on the issue saying she feels safer in Nigeria than in America.
