Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, expressed optimism that the Federal Government’s economic policies would stimulate Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in Nigeria. Speaking after meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, Mbah acknowledged that certain measures, such as the removal of the fuel subsidy, might pose immediate challenges for citizens but deemed them necessary for the nation’s economic revival.
The governor commended President Tinubu for initiatives like unifying the foreign exchange rate, anticipating a surge in FDI. He highlighted the positive impact on Enugu State, emphasizing that the ease of investors bringing in and repatriating funds would significantly benefit the state.
Enugu State is actively seeking collaborations with the Federal Government to advance key projects, including the construction of a cargo terminal and the completion of the international wing of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport. Mbah outlined the state’s commitment to these endeavors, citing the need for permits and licenses to establish an enhanced logistics hub that would attract the desired investments.
Mbah underscored Enugu’s readiness for investment, addressing concerns about past challenges such as sit-at-home orders and insecurity. He declared that the sit-at-home phenomenon no longer affected Enugu State and the wider South East region, emphasizing the return to normalcy with schools, businesses, and economic activities resuming. With an improved security situation, the governor invited potential investors to explore opportunities in Enugu State, declaring it open for business.
This positive outlook reflects Enugu State’s determination to leverage federal policies and collaborative efforts to create an environment conducive to economic growth and investment. The governor’s visit to President Tinubu signifies a shared commitment to fostering economic development and attracting vital investments to the region.
