Chief B. A Omole AgbonoJustice Abubakar Sadiq  Umar of the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja on Thursday, February 6, 2014 convicted and sentenced one Agboworin Omole to fifteen months imprisonment with no option of fine over an offence which borders on fraud.

The convict was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on one count amended charge for fraudulently collecting and misappropriating the sum of N8.4m (Eight Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira) belonging to the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja.

The charge reads: “That you Chief B.A Omole being the Managing Director of Omole Agboworin & Co. and Omole Agboworin & Co .  on or about 1st August, 2001 at Abuja in the Abuja Judicial Division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory did dishonestly misappropriate the sum of N8, 400,000.00 (Eight Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira) only being the property of Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 309 of the Penal Code Law Cap 532 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (Abuja) 1990”.

Omole’s journey to jail started sometime in 2001 when he entered into a contractual agreement as an Estate Agent with the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja for the lease of a property at Plot 606 Lingui Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja for a sum of N8, 400,000.00 (Eight Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira) for two years (agency fee inclusive), but failed to deliver the property to the ministry.
All attempts by the ministry to get a refund of the said sum proved abortive.
