Residents of Evugi community in Gbako Local Government Area of Niger State have called on the Commissioner of Police in the state and other relevant security forces to swiftly rearrest one Dauda Shabako in the interest of peace and security.
The appeal comes after Shabako, from Biramafu community, was reportedly released from a correctional facility during a public holiday declared by the Niger State Government, without the knowledge of Magistrate Hajiya Ummih Mohammed, who had issued a warrant for his arrest over the alleged killing of three persons from Evugi village.
Shabako, along with others, was allegedly responsible for the deaths of three persons from Evugi village, which led to tensions between the two communities.

The situation has escalated following his unexpected release, with youths from Evugi threatening a reprisal attack on Biramafu community.
The conflict between the two villages dates back to 2022 when Biramafu youths attacked Evugi village, resulting in casualties on both sides. The dispute revolves around a path linking Evugi to other villages in the council and has been ongoing for seven years.
Nakordi Penta Evugi, a member of the youth committee in Evugi, urged the Niger State Police Command to rearrest the suspect to restore peace. He also appealed to the state government to dispatch security agencies to the community to prevent further escalation of tensions.
Speaking to newsmen in Minna, Nakordi Penta Evugi expressed concern over the eroding peace in their community since the return of Dauda Shabako.
He emphasized the need for urgent measures to address the situation before it escalates further.
The situation remains tense as both communities await action from the authorities to prevent further violence and restore calm in the area.
