Sadiya Umar-Farouq, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development during the tenure of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has reportedly refused to honor an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding an alleged N37.1 billion laundering case involving a contractor, James Okwete.
According to earlier reports by the media, Umar-Farouq was expected to appear before EFCC interrogators at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday at 10:00 am.
However, a source within the EFCC, speaking anonymously, confirmed that she did not appear for the scheduled interrogation.

“We just closed from work now because she didn’t show up today, and it’s 6 pm already. It’s certain that she’s never going to show up today,” the source stated.
This development comes on the heels of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s suspension of Halima Shehu, the national coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, over her alleged involvement in the same fraud case.
Subsequently, Halima Shehu was arrested by the EFCC.
The refusal of Umar-Farouq to honor the EFCC’s invitation raises questions about the ongoing investigation into the alleged financial misconduct during her tenure as Minister.
