Former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Peter Babalola, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to use his political influence to bolster the party’s strength, particularly in Irewole Local Government Area and the Osun West Senatorial District.
During his formal reception into the APC in Ikire, hosted by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, Babalola vowed to secure a comprehensive victory for the APC in the upcoming local government elections.
“I have instructed my supporters across all 30 local government areas and 332 wards in Osun State to register as APC members,” Babalola announced.
The former Osun State Chief of Staff also cautioned the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke against any attempts to manipulate the local government elections in favor of the PDP, warning of dire consequences.
Babalola further revealed that APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, would soon visit Osogbo to officially welcome him into the party.
Representing Minister Oyetola, the APC State Secretary, Alao Kamorudeen, expressed confidence that the party would achieve a landslide victory in the forthcoming local government elections, as well as in future national elections.
He urged party members to rally behind the leadership and candidates, emphasizing the need for immediate mobilization in preparation for the polls.
“Party members should return to their respective political wards to register and ensure a strong presence in their communities,” Kamorudeen said.
The event was attended by senatorial leaders and party members from the 30 local government areas that make up the Osun West Senatorial District, who welcomed Babalola into the APC fold.
Babalola, a former Chairman of the Governing Council of the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, had earlier resigned from the PDP and was suspended from the party’s ward executives in Irewole Local Government in August.
