Fani-Kayode Acquitted Of Money Laundering Charges

FFKThe money laundering charges proffered against a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have been dismissed by a Federal High Court in Lagos.

Fani-Kayode, who was the Director, Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, was accused in 2008 of laundering about N100m while he was minister of culture and tourism and later aviation, in the Olusegun Obasanjo administration.

The alleged laundered sum was subsequently reduced to N2.1million on November 17, 2014 after the court dismissed 38 of the 40-count charge levelled against Mr. Fani-Kayode for want of evidence.

The trial judge, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, in her ruling on Wednesday, freed Fani-Kayode after holding that “the prosecution case is feeble” and had failed to prove the allegations against the accused person beyond reasonable doubt.
