Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has issued a stern warning to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, advising him against contesting the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fayose, who made the statement during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television on Friday, vowed to oppose Atiku’s candidacy should he choose to run again.
“I’m telling you that if Atiku comes again, I will work against him,” Fayose declared. “It’s time to learn our lessons. Nigerians want to hear, make a decision, and have an understanding.”

The former governor also addressed the issue of zoning and regional balance, asserting that a southerner cannot succeed President Bola Tinubu after his tenure.
“People can say what they like, but after Asiwaju’s tenure, let a Southerner come out—I will also come out and say a Southerner can’t be president of Nigeria,” Fayose said.
He emphasized the importance of responsible leadership, party discipline, and equitable distribution of power, warning against the abuse of executive authority.
“The power of a Chief Executive continues to hold life when he does not abuse the command of such powers,” Fayose noted. “If an Asiwaju says, ‘because I’m the commander-in-chief, my ADC should shoot that man,’ should the ADC shoot the man? No.”
According to him, the PDP must embrace internal equity and responsible leadership to avoid internal rebellion and voter discontent.
