- Berates Fayemi for plunging Ekiti into debt.
Ekiti State government has said that the huge debt left by the government of Governor Kayode Fayemi will not be an excuse for non-performance by the present government as the administration of Dr. Ayodele Fayose would work assiduously to ensure that it delivers on its electoral promises to the people of the state.
The Special Assistant to Governor Ayodele Fayose on Public Communication and New media, Mr Lere Olayinka disclosed this at a press conference he addressed in conjunction with the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi in Ado-Ekiti.
Olayinka said Dr. Ayodele Fayose is loved by Ekiti people because he is a man of his words specifically noted for action and performance and will not therefore let anything soil his image but work to live up to his reputation among his people.
He explained that the purpose of the press conference was basically to brief the press and the public on the new facts discovered about the financial recklessness of the immediate past government and how All Progressive Congress (APC) government under Governor Kayode Fayemi ruined Ekiti State economically, putting the state in financial bondage till year 2020.
The governor’s spokesman agreed with the reason that the new government should just forget the past and move on but stressed the need for the government to equally look at the past, consider the present to enable it make adequate projection for the future and development of the state.
“Yes, Fayose will move on and deliver its on electoral promises. The government of Fayose will bring succor to Ekiti people by putting food on their tables but the government of Fayose must look at the past, consider the present and project for the future of Ekiti State”.
The Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media disclosed that new facts recently discovered put Ekiti debt at N86, 013,689,097 contrary to the figure announced by the governor on the day of his inauguration.
He said the Fayose Transition Committee could not lay its hands on all these new facts then because Governor Fayemi failed to do the proper handing over, probably to cover up some of these emerging facts.
Olayinka gave the breakdown of the debts as follows: bank loan total N15, 831, 613,425.62; Bond: N26, 749,796,784.75; Outstanding warrant:
N15, 522, 522, 900.76; outstanding to road contractors: N21, 286, 126, 749.00; outstanding remittance to the federal government: N709, 883, 656.75; outstanding remittances (state government): N592, 995, 374.89 while the Ekiti State public servants outstanding emoluments is put at N5, 137, 888, 224.37.
He also revealed that some of the illegal financial transactions of Fayemi administration to include the N5 billion naira which was borrowed from Eco Bank two weeks to the June 21 election by Fayemi without following the due process or recourse to the Debt Management Office (DMO) in Abuja, using the Fountain Holding Limited headed by Se
gun Fayemi, his younger brother.
Olayinka berated Fayemi administration for squandering whooping sum of N604, 961, 645.72 just to furnish the palacious Governor’s Lodge built for the comfort of himself and his wife when the state takes less than
N3 billion as monthly federal allocation and workers salaries and allowances were in arrears.
Describing the previous administration of governor Kayode Fayemi as a monumental disaster to Ekiti and his people going by the way it mismanaged the meager resources of the state, Lere Olayinka asserted that those who defrauded Ekiti State will be made to refund every kobo they stole while those who shed the blood of the innocent sons and daughters will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
