The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to launching the Student Loan Scheme this January, assuring prospective beneficiaries that the initiative remains on schedule.
According to the government, students who apply through the forthcoming website can expect to access the loan within 30 days of their application.
Dr. Yusuf Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, made this announcement to reporters following the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
He emphasized that the website for the scheme is nearing completion and will soon be ready for student applications.
“January is a reality. Already the website is almost done.
Application for beneficiaries is going to be online…and you can access your loan within 30 days,” Dr. Sununu stated.
The initiative, which aims to provide financial support to students pursuing higher education, has been a focal point of the government’s educational policy.
President Bola Tinubu had previously mentioned the commencement of the new Student Loan Programme during the 29th session of the annual Nigeria Economic Summit in Abuja on October 23, 2023.
With the imminent launch of the Student Loan Scheme, the government seeks to enhance access to education and alleviate the financial burden on students pursuing academic endeavors.
