Muhammadu-BuhariThe staff of the Nigerian High Commission in New York, United States, have not been paid their salaries for months by the Federal Government.

According to Sahara Reporters, the embassy officials have been working under un-condusive conditions.

The report says the offices in the embassy are so hot that people who come to process their passports have to wait outside.

The air-conditioning system in the building broke down for over a month and nothing has been done to fix it, a reporter said.

Nigerians who were at the embassy to obtain their passports also complained about the situation of things, the attitude of the staff and slow pace of processing passports.

At a particular time, they were asked to return because the their printer ink got finished, one observer said.

A Nigerian who spoke to Sahara Reporters said “You won’t believe how rude they were; they talk to you anyhow.

I begged them that my children cannot come back to this heat, but they didn’t care.”

Another man who drove five hours from Pennsylvania to process his passports said “My baby’s food is finished.

I begged the staff all day to please help us do the passport today. We came very early, all the way from Pennsylvania; we drove for five hours, they just dismissed me and told my wife and I to come back on Wednesday.”
