Report from Office of the head of Civil Service of the Federation.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi has advised Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government to develop environmental policy and to indentify focal persons in their Human Resources Department who will ensure daily enforcement of environmental regulations and procedures.

The Head of Service gave the advice in his goodwill message in commemoration of the 2015 World Environmental Day with the theme: “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care”, held in Abuja recently.
He said that a workplace that is characterized by waste, poorly managed toilets and generally degraded surroundings obviously impacts negatively on productivity.

Kifasi said further that, it is important for all Ministries to imbibe and demonstrate the culture of sound environmental management and sanitation.  In this regard, he said, “all Ministries are additionally advised to practice sound waste management and sanitation by providing adequate waste storage and toilet facilities which must be kept clean. Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) should also beautify their immediate surroundings by making them green with plants.”

For the Civil Service, he said further: “we must understand that a simple change in attitude as ‘keeping our environment clean and green’ will improve our health conditions thereby enhance our productivity.”
