Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun during the Efficiency Unit, media round stated that it is highly important for the government to use its purchasing power to make beneficial bargains for the country and also further enhance transparency by introducing price guidelines.
“We have some professionals working with us. We have people that will support, provide data to ensure that they conform to the guidelines, even in operations,” Adeosun said through her representative, Patience Oniha.
Adeosun stated that, if a 5% discount was secured on the average annual expenditure of N83 billion on travels then the government would save N4.14 billion Naira on travel yearly.
In bid to effect more savings from elimination of wastages, excess capacity, and duplication Adeosun pledged to smooth-run government procurement process.
She further explained that the ministry of finance has concluded all processes to strengthen internal control and ensure that compliance and enforcement is mandatory in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Recently, Adeosun revealed that about 23,000 ghost workers were discovered in the Federal civil service.
