Severe flooding has submerged about 103 communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State following continuous heavy rainfall and a massive overflow of the Orashi River.
In Akinima, the LGA’s headquarters, numerous homes and farms have been nearly submerged by the rising floodwaters, with residents facing extensive property and crop losses.
Some of the hardest-hit communities include Mbiama, Akinima, Engenni, and Enedua.
Esedi Joe, Chief Press Secretary of Ahoada West LGA, stated that the council is overwhelmed by the scale of the disaster and is urgently seeking support from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and international aid organizations to address the crisis.
