Ogun State government has enjoined stakeholders in the forestry sub sector to always follow due process while carrying out their transactions to avoid sanctions.
Commissioner for Forestry, Alhaji Adebayo Fari gave this warning while addressing workers at different revenue collection points of the Ministry across the State.
Fari underscored the need for timber contractors and others doing businesses within the sector to ensure prompt and correct payment of funds into appropriate purse of government.
According to him, it is necessary to sensitize and caution toll collectors to address cases of laxity noted in the out gone year, affirming that government cannot afford losing revenue that could be utilized for developmental purposes.
Warning that government would not hesitate to sanction any officer found wanting in the discharge of his duty, Fari said government would organise capacity building programmes for the officers to re-invigorate revenue generation mechanism of the Ministry, block leakages and ultimately, maximize the utilization of wood resources of the State.
“What we intend to do now is to re-engineer the revenue generating capacity of the Ministry, one of the things we would do is to build the capacity of our toll collectors and put in place proper monitoring of their activities so as to reinforce revenue generation this year”,.
The toll points visited include Atoyo and Ogere Remo axis as well as Rounder in Abeokuta.
