Otunba Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State and the current senator representing Ogun East, has urged Nigerians to return to farming in order to increase food production for the country as a whole and decrease the prevalence of famine.
Daniel further informed everyone of President Bola Tinubu’s resolve to revitalize the country’s agriculture sector in order to increase food sufficiency throughout the nation.
Monday was the first day of a training session for rice farmers that was held at the Asoludero Court in Sagamu, Ogun State. He made his remarks during this event.

The Senator revealed that the Tinubu administration is dedicated to make Nigeria one of the top producers of rice across the entire world.
Another component of the event was the giving away of free rice seedlings and fertilizers to a group of approximately one hundred attendees.
In his remarks, Daniel acknowledged the “great potential” that the country possesses in terms of the cultivation and production of rice.
The representative recalled a time when agriculture was the primary driver of the country’s economy, and he emphasized the importance of getting more people interested in farming so that production can fulfill the needs of both domestic and international consumers, particularly so that the nation can bring in more revenue from tourism and other forms of international trade.
He urged the people of Nigeria to maintain their support for the current administration as it works to address the plethora of issues that are now confronting the nation and to alleviate the suffering of its populace.
“We have been blessed beyond measure by God in Nigeria. We have a great deal of untapped potential. Agriculture was the primary industry that supported our economy before the discovery of oil. But for some reason, we failed to prioritize agriculture, despite the fact that it holds greater potential given the quantity of land we own.
“I would like to make the case to us that now is the time to get back to farming. Following the completion of this program, we anticipate that you will become successful rice farmers by planting these seedlings. “Let us begin to grow rice and make Nigeria one of the rice-producing countries in the world,” he remarked. “Let us not let this opportunity pass us by.”
Rice production was referred to as the “new oil” for the economy of the nation by Dr. Nasir Raji-Mustapha, the Director-General of the National Productivity Centre. He made this statement while speaking.
Participants in the training were charged by Raji-Mustapha, who was represented at the event by Mrs. Linda Bitrus, to show appreciation for the kind act performed by the organizers.
