Former First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Odochi Orji, has resigned her membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Her resignation was confirmed in a letter dated May 21, 2024, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Umuahia Urban Ward 1.
This move comes just three weeks after her son, the immediate past Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji, also left the party.

Mrs. Orji, whose husband Senator Theodore Orji governed Abia State from 2007 to 2015, cited personal reasons for her departure from the PDP but did not reveal her future political plans.
Her resignation letter stated: “I write to formally resign as a member of the PDP with effect from this day, May 21, 2024, for personal reasons.
Thank you for your support during my tenure as the First Lady of Abia and until date a strong supporter of the party. I wish you all the best.”
The letter was also copied to the Abia State Chairman of the PDP and the Acting National Chairman of the party.
It remains unclear if her husband, Senator Theodore Orji, who served most of his political career under the PDP, including two terms in the Senate, will also leave the party.
Senator Orji’s Aide and former Chief Liaison Officer, Hon. Ifeanyi Umere, confirmed the former First Lady’s resignation when contacted.
This development follows a series of high-profile resignations within the PDP in the South East, including the departure of former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha.
