In a significant political move, the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Ishielu/Ezza North federal constituency, Obinna Nwachukwu, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State.
Accompanying him in this switch are his 2,000 loyalists.
The defection ceremony, held at the APC state party secretariat in Abakaliki, saw Nwachukwu commending Governor Francis Nwifuru for the various ongoing projects in the state.

He expressed gratitude to the APC state Chairman, Stanley Okoro Emegha, for receiving him and his supporters into the party.
Highlighting the importance of unity and collaboration, Nwachukwu urged all stakeholders to work together towards the common goal of a better Ebonyi State.
Nwachukwu’s defection is expected to have a significant impact on Ebonyi State’s political landscape, particularly in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.
He stated, “I am a respected figure in Ebonyi State politics. I made a bold step today as I officially announced my defection from my former political party PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC.”
In response to the defections, the state party Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, voiced his support for a one-party system in Ebonyi State, arguing that it would foster stability, continuity, and accelerated development.
He called on all politicians and citizens to set aside their differences and focus on building a stronger, more prosperous future for the state.
Emegha assured that the defectors would be accommodated in the affairs of the party and the state, emphasizing the APC’s openness to welcoming more members from other political parties.
He stated, “Do not restrict people from coming to APC, don’t segregate. Tell them, let everybody come. Let us come together. The house is more than enough to carry all of us.”
