Justice Lambo Akanbi of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State Thursday July 10, 2014 convicted and sentenced one Sunday Eze to thirteen years imprisonment for obtaining money under false pretence.
The convict was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in February 2013 on a two count charge that borders on advance fee fraud and obtaining money under false pretence.
One of the counts reads; “that you Sunday Eze on or about the 20th day of November, 2012 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court with intent to defraud did obtain the sum of eighty thousand naira from one Biachi Blessing, on the false pretence that you could cleanse her of a purported chemical exposure which you had exposed her to in the process of your washing paper into money with the purported chemical which you knew was false and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1(1)(a) and (b) and punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006”.
After diligent prosecution, Justice Akanbi found him guilty on the two count and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment on count one and five years on count two. The court also ordered the convict to pay the sum of Eighty Thousand Naira to the victim as restitution.
