Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu and the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that the period of political conflict in the state is over.
Fubara also endorsed the coalition’s governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, urging his supporters to rally behind the alliance and its candidates.

The governor made his position known in a video shared on social media, where he called on his loyalists to put past disagreements aside and work towards peace and political stability in the state.
“We have made peace in the state and I am supporting the Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Tinubu is our president and is the one that we are supporting,” Fubara said.
He added that Chinda was his preferred candidate for the governorship election and urged everyone who believed in his leadership to support the candidate.
“Chinda is the governorship candidate that I am supporting and everybody who believes in me will support,” he stated.
Fubara also addressed supporters who had reportedly been waiting for political benefits before declaring their support for the coalition. He dismissed the idea that they needed to receive anything before aligning with the group.
According to him, he had returned to his political family and wanted his supporters across the state to follow suit.
The governor said Rivers State needed to move beyond the political divisions that had characterised its leadership in recent years, stressing that peace and cooperation were necessary for progress.
“We need to move forward. The time of war is over, this is the time of peace and this peace is taking us to another level. What you miss here you gain in another place, that’s life,” he said.
Fubara further warned his supporters against presenting his personal political interest as the basis for their activities, insisting that his position on the coalition was clear.
He maintained that he would not support any political move capable of creating instability or undermining peace in Rivers State.
“I have done what I need to do and for now we are moving forward,” he added.
The governor’s declaration reflects a renewed alignment with the political camp led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following the prolonged political dispute between the two leaders.
The disagreement, which began in 2023, triggered divisions within the Rivers State House of Assembly and a series of political and legal confrontations that affected governance in the state.
President Tinubu intervened in the crisis in December 2023, but tensions persisted before the two political camps moved towards reconciliation.
The Rainbow Coalition brings together politicians from different parties in Rivers State with the stated objective of supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid and coordinating political support for candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Fubara’s latest declaration is expected to shape political alignments in Rivers State as parties and political groups intensify preparations for the forthcoming elections.
