Manchester United winger, Alejandro Garnacho must improve his consistency if he wants to justify comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo, John O’Shea has said. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, Ronaldo could only get away with not tracking back because he was either scoring or assisting, so Garnacho must ensure his work rate matches that of his teammates until he gets to that level.
O’Shea added that he really likes Amorim’s personality, and he has definitely brought new energy into the club.
His words, “Not yet, there’s definitely some spectacular goals which are very similar, [but] Alejandro will have to keep improving. Ronaldo used to be able to get away with certain things on the pitch – eventually his team-mates would have been happy with him not running or chasing back because he was producing, he was always getting goals, there were always assists, there was always end product. Until you get to that level of consistency you have to match your work rate around the team as well, it’s not just Garnacho, all the players have to realise that. If you’re not going to track back, you’re not going to put in the hard yards, your team-mates aren’t going to be too happy with you, unless you’re getting goals and assists every game.”
On the youth setup at MUFC, “I think it’s in a great place. United are about to get another influx of younger talent and that proud tradition the club has of having an academy player in matchday squads is going to continue. Kobbie is the latest to come on the scene, there’s lots more bubbling away ready to come. They’ll soon come on the scene and some of my former team-mates’ kids are not too far away either. There’s good pedigree on the way.”
On Amorim, “In terms of a personality I really like him, how he goes about dealing with everything so far. He’s trying to put a new system in place. I’m sure some players are adapting quicker than others, some players will flourish in the system and I think the other players will get it eventually but the manager will want them to get it a bit quicker. Obviously there’s a new energy and freshness from his staff but the players will have to respond to that quickly because of the amount of games that’s coming in December, it’s crazy.”
WOW.
Manchester United Football Club, commonly referred to as Man United or simply United, is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. The club competes in the Premier League, the top division in the English football league system.
Nicknamed the Red Devils, they were founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, but changed their name to Manchester United in 1902. After a spell playing in Clayton, Manchester, the club moved to their current stadium, Old Trafford, in 1910.
Alex Ferguson and his assistant Archie Knox arrived from Aberdeen on the day of Atkinson’s dismissal, and guided the club to an 11th-place finish in the league. Despite a second-place finish in 1987–88, the club was back in 11th place the following season. Reportedly on the verge of being dismissed, Ferguson’s job was saved by victory over Crystal Palace in the 1990 FA Cup final.
The following season, Manchester United claimed their first UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup title. That triumph allowed the club to compete in the European Super Cup for the first time, where United beat European Cup holders Red Star Belgrade 1–0 at Old Trafford. The club appeared in two consecutive League Cup finals in 1991 and 1992, beating Nottingham Forest 1–0 in the second to win that competition for the first time as well.
