Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has received his awards as the 2014 Best Foreign Player in Asia and the top scorer in the 2013-2014 Asian Champions League for this season.
The Black Stars captain, who plays for UAE side Al Ain, was presented with the awards over the weekend after excelling in the Asian Champions League this year.
Gyan emerged the top scorer of the competition with 12 goals as Al Ain’s reached semi-final stage of Asia’s top-flight club competition.
“Al Ain’s Ghanaian player Mr. Asamoah Gyan’s consistent and excellent performance in the AFC Champions League scoring a total of 12 goals and helping his team reach the semi-finals of the competition is an achievement to be proud of,” a statement signed by the AFC General Secretary Dato Soosay read.
“On behalf of AFC President and the AFC Executive Committee members, it is our honour to present the AFC Foreign Player of the Year 2014 accolade to Mr. Asamoah Gyan.”
Gyan has been scooping top awards in the UAE since arriving from English side Sunderland in 2011.
He has emerged top goalscorer in the UAE top flight for the last three consecutive seasons and is in the running for the 2014 African Player of the Year, where he has been shortlisted alongside Yaya Toure (Cote d’Ivoire), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon) and Nigeria duo, Ahmed Musa and Vincent Enyeama.
