Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved the payment of a N73,000 minimum wage for state workers, surpassing the federal government’s N70,000 benchmark.
Aiyedatiwa made the announcement on Saturday during the flag-off of the Ondo Central Senatorial District campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the upcoming off-cycle governorship election.
The event took place in Ondo City, the headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area.
Highlighting his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people, Aiyedatiwa said the decision to pay N73,000 reflects a dedication to improving workers’ well-being.
“We are committed to the welfare of our people, which is why we went beyond the federal government’s N70,000 minimum wage and approved N73,000 for our workers,” the governor said.
Addressing a large crowd of supporters, Aiyedatiwa urged them to translate their support into votes for the APC to ensure the continuation of development projects across the state.
“On November 16, I urge everyone here and those not present to convert your support into votes for the APC to ensure the continuation of our significant progress,” he said.
“From my interactions and observations, it’s clear that the people want this administration to continue beyond 2024.”
He emphasized the need for continuity to sustain ongoing projects, adding, “The best way to express your love and appreciation is to vote for continuity, which will bring even more dividends of democracy.”
During the campaign, Aiyedatiwa highlighted several achievements of his administration, including efforts to boost agricultural productivity and improve rural infrastructure.
“In agriculture, we’ve made significant strides to enhance food production across the state,” he noted.
“We’ve also approved over a billion naira for land clearing and initiated rural road construction projects to facilitate farmers’ activities and improve productivity in rural areas.”
Aiyedatiwa assured the crowd that the APC-led government remains focused on delivering impactful projects, including those initiated by the late governor, to enhance the well-being of all residents in Ondo State.
