Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has approved the holding of a Special Games for physically challenged athletes in the State from Year 2016 as a way of giving them a sense of belonging in the society.

This was disclosed recently by the Chairman of the State Sports Commission and Special Adviser on Sports to the Governor, Mr. Deji Tinubu, while speaking at a special event organised by the government to commemorate World Disability Day, a day set aside by the United Nations to honour “People with Disability” globally.
He pointed out that, the present administration recognises the importance of these set of special people, which is why the Commission went to great length to organise a unique event for them to celebrate their Day, themed “Inclusion Matters: Access and Empowerment for People of All Abilities”.
The Chairman explained further that, series of activities have been lined up for the physically challenged students drawn from different schools across the State.
He stressed that, all the schools that participated in the special event to celebrate the World Disability Day will be given sports equipment to encourage their students to engage in sporting activities.
Similarly, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has reiterated his administration’s will to continue to use sports as a tool for youth’s development and empowerment.
The Governor stated this recently while addressing participants at the final ceremony of the 47th edition of Asoju Oba Molade Okoya-Thomas Table Tennis Championship held at the Indoor Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.
Governor Ambode, who was represented by the Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission/Special Adviser on Sports, Mr. Ayodeji Tinubu said that, using sports as a tool for youths empowerment in the State is one of the cardinal focus of the present administration.
He hinted that the State government, through the Sports Commission, will provide standard sporting facilities in all the five divisions of the State to enable the youths have access to them as well as develop their budding talents in different sports.
