
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has called on graduates in the country to be self-dependent, just as he urged them not to be over reliant on non-existing white collar jobs.
The Governor said this today at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.
Governor Ambode, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Oluseye Oladejo also assured the Corps members of their safety during and after the orientation course.
“I urge you to pay special attention to this programme and other training activities that have been designed to prepare you for a successful service and post-service life while assuring you of your safety during and after this orientation course”, he said.
Ambode also commended the management of the National Youth Service Corps for establishing the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme aimed at making corps members self- dependent and not job seekers.
The Governor implored the corps members to be of good conduct and put in their best in serving the country, saying that “I want you to resolve in your minds to put in your best during your National Service which starts with the orientation course. I charge you to use this course to lay a solid foundation for a fulfilling service year and to prepare yourself for selfless service to your fatherland.”
In his remarks, the State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos State, Prince Mohammed Momoh said a total of 2722 Corps members comprising of 757males and 1,965 females were registered to take part in the three weeks orientation course.
He urged the corps members to take full advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme which is aimed at turning the corps members into job creators rather than job seekers.
The Oath of Allegiance for the 2722 Corps members was administered by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade who also advised the Corps members to abide by the rules and regulations of the camp. (LASG)
