Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has refuted claims that his criticism of certain federal government policies is politically motivated.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed clarified that his stance is rooted in constructive feedback aimed at national progress.
This response comes after remarks by Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, suggesting political undertones in the governor’s comments.

The statement noted that Governor Mohammed’s critique of the Tax Reform Bills is informed by his extensive experience as a former Federal Capital Territory Minister, a second-term governor, and the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.
“With his deep understanding of inclusive governance and firsthand experience with the impact of poorly designed macro-economic policies, he recognizes the importance of carefully considered reforms,” the statement read.
Governor Mohammed emphasized the need for broad-based consultation on policies affecting millions of Nigerians.
“In a constitutional democracy, the President is obligated to engage stakeholders, build consensus, and consider alternative views. Governor Mohammed’s comments are a reminder of this responsibility, not an attack on the President’s authority,” the statement added.
The governor further highlighted his respect for President Bola Tinubu, describing him as a pro-democracy icon whose activism and leadership inspired many.
“President Tinubu’s legacy as a bold critic of anti-democratic military regimes and his battles to democratize the local government system in Lagos State serve as a testament to the importance of constructive dissent,” the statement noted.
Criticizing Mr. Dare’s approach, the governor’s media team stated: “This is not the first time Mr. Dare has launched an unprovoked attack on Governor Bala Mohammed.
His role as a media adviser demands professionalism, diplomacy, and an unwavering commitment to uniting Nigerians behind the President’s vision. Instead, Mr. Dare has chosen to sow division and distract from critical national issues.”
The statement reiterated that Governor Mohammed holds the Office of the President in high regard, stressing that respect for the presidency does not preclude constructive critique in a democratic society.
