Additional humanitarian assistance for victims of banditry and tragedy has been requested by Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.
The request became necessary, according to a statement released by governor’s spokeswoman Sulaiman Bala Idris, because of the refugee commission’s duty to aid victims of natural catastrophes.
The statement claims that the governor made the request during a meeting with Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.

According to the statement, Governor Lawal went to the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons to discuss how he could better help individuals in Zamfara State who have been impacted by banditry.
As reported by the BBC, “during the visit, Governor Lawal appealed to the Commission to prioritize Zamfara State due to the ongoing insecurity which they are in dire need of humanitarian assistance,” and “requested that the Hon. Commissioner consider extending the refugee resettlement cities constructed in Gusau to other zones of the state.”
The governor of Zamfara State, according to the statement, has stressed the importance of partnerships and collaborations in light of the state’s limited resources in order to alleviate the suffering of more than 2,000 refugees.
Commissioner Ahmed of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons responded that his organization would keep helping people in need in states like Zamfara and others that are experiencing security issues.
The Federal Commissioner praised Governor Zamfara for making the first visit to the Commission from an Executive Governor since he took office. I appreciate it very much. Your dedication is clearly displayed here.
“It is an honour that you have taken the time to visit us, which indicates your commitment to the well-being of your people. Your plea for more help has been heard, and we intend to fulfill it. That’s why the Commission won’t let you go away empty handed,” the commissioner promised.
