Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has expressed concern over the destructive impact of “politics of bitterness” in the state.
He cautioned politicians to be mindful of their actions to avoid undermining the state’s peace and economic growth.
Governor Fubara made these remarks when he received a delegation from the House of Representatives Committee on Ports and Harbours, led by Chairman Nnolim Nnaji, at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

The delegation visited Rivers State for oversight functions at the Port Harcourt and Onne sea ports and Bonny channels.
A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, noted that the governor emphasized the importance of the sea ports in leveraging the blue economy.
He criticized those who have allowed political bitterness to hinder the development of these critical infrastructures.
“About nine years ago, somebody here was the senior Minister of Transport, and nothing happened at our ports.
Every progress that was supposed to come to the sea ports here, because of bitter politics, was stopped. That is why our ports are moribund today,” Fubara said.
“Today, after another eight years, which this other person suffered, we have entered into another similar era.
If you love this state, it is normal to support everything that will bring progress and development to this state.
It is not about who is sitting here today. It is about the state. If the state continues to go down, what is the interest? The only reason why we are struggling is because of the allocation.”
Governor Fubara stressed that politics should be seen as a game with winners and losers, and those who lose should not resort to actions that destroy the system.
He assured the committee members that his administration is committed to revamping all the sea ports and Blue Sea commercial channels in the state.
The governor’s remarks underscore the need for unity and collaborative efforts to ensure the state’s progress and development, regardless of political affiliations.
