Oyo State’s Governor Seyi Makinde proclaimed August 20 as Isese Day annually.
Makinde made this announcement on Friday.
According to Infostride News, traditionalists in the state have been lobbying for their own holiday for some time now.
They want the 20th of August to be a legal holiday in their state so that they can celebrate Isese Day.
After hearing the pleas of those who practice traditional religions, the governor has designated Monday, August 21, 2023 as the first official public holiday to mark the occasion.
He added that every 20th August would be observed as a public holiday in commemoration of the Isese day in the state.
Professor Olanike Adeyemo, who serves as Secretary to the Government of Oyo State, released the statement on behalf of the governor.
The governor called on the state’s traditional worshipers to use the day to pray for the state’s and the nation’s peace, unity, and stability.
