On Monday, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State signed an executive order to protect mining communities in the state against insecurity and exploitation.
The order was signed by the governor.
In addition, Makinde signed an additional executive order that established the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the country.

During his remarks, the Governor explained that the signing was taking place so that his administration’s efforts in the tourism and solid mineral industries might receive official endorsement from the state.
He stated that the two executive orders were issued in light of the determination made by his administration to advance its economic expansion agenda through the development of tourism and solid mineral development.
The Governor stated that despite the fact that mining activity is on the exclusive legislative list, the state government has decided to take a proactive approach to guaranteeing proper protection of the mining communities against instability and exploitation, as well as on the accompanying environmental challenges.
“For some time now, we have been keeping an eye on the developments taking place within our mining communities, and we are obligated to address the concerns regarding security that surround those communities.”
“The second executive order is on the establishment of the ministry of culture and tourism, because culture and tourism is a major pillar in our roadmap for sustainable development, 2023-2027,” he stated.
“The reason for this is because culture and tourism is a major pillar in our roadmap.”
