Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has revealed that the death toll from the Christmas Eve attacks in the state has climbed to over 115.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Mutfwang condemned the attacks as unprovoked and called on security forces to identify the perpetrators and their supporters.
The attacks, which targeted more than 15 communities in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas, were characterized by simultaneous assaults by assailants.

The perpetrators set numerous homes ablaze, looted agricultural produce, and caused widespread destruction while ruthlessly attacking residents.
Mutfwang, visibly affected by the grim situation, lamented the timing of the assaults, coinciding with the festive season.
He disclosed the harrowing details, stating, “Just when we had finished preparations for Christmas, unprovoked attacks were unleashed on our communities. As I am talking to you, in Mangu Local Government alone, we buried 15 people.
As of this morning, in Bokkos, we are counting over 100 corpses. Not to talk of that of Barkin-Ladi.”
Despite the scale and brutality of the attacks, Mutfwang affirmed the resilience of the affected communities, emphasizing their determination to withstand the onslaught.
He described the assaults as “unprecedented and monumental,” highlighting the gravity of the situation.
The governor’s disclosure underscores the urgency of the situation in Plateau State, where the devastating impact of the attacks has left a profound mark on the affected communities.
