Antoine Griezmann has no need to leave Atletico Madrid and “has the world in his hands” at the club, strike partner Fernando Torres has told the BBC’s Football Focus.
Griezmann’s adviser claimed last week that Real Madrid — along with Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona — had asked about his availability.
And at the weekend, L’Equipe reported that a “secret plan” would see Griezmann remain at Atletico for one more year before joining Real next summer.
But Torres said the France international should stay where he is because Atletico have everything he needs.
After watching Griezmann score the only goal of the Champions League first-leg win over Leicester City on Wendesday, Torres said: “Where are you going to go to improve what you have at Atletico? Not many places in the world.
“I hope he can stay with us forever. When young players become one of the best in the world, everyone wants to sign them.
“But you can go to many other places in the world and they cannot offer what Atletico can offer you right now: competing in the league, competing in the Champions League, one of the most respected teams in Europe — there is no reason to leave.”
Torres added that Griezmann “has the world in his hands” and said: “He’s 26, which is a very good age to develop your game and to decide if you want to be a good player or a top player.”
The former Liverpool striker, who left Anfield for Chelsea in 2011, said he had done so because promises made to the players were not kept.
“I had everything at Liverpool. But then they sell the best players, the manager. So I had to find my own way,” he added.
“We were not building a team to win. That was the reality, the situation changed very much in six months.”
