The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reports that with only seven weeks left to the governorship election on November 11, at least 134,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have not yet been collected in Imo.
Prof. Sylvia Agu, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Owerri, told reporters on Wednesday that the commission had began issuing PVCs for the election on September 11 and that it will do so until October 9.
About 134,000 unused PVCs have been stockpiled by INEC in the state of Imo’s 27 local government council secretariats.

I recommend that those in the Orsu Local Government Area visit the state office in Owerri to pick up their PVCs, while others in the rest of Imo should visit the INEC offices in their respective council areas.
According to her, “INEC has also developed certain centres for PVC collection for Registration Areas that have more than 1,000 uncollected PVCs,” in addition to the 27 local government area offices.
Keep in mind that you can’t have a proxy pick up your Permanent Voter Card; instead, you’ll need to trade in your TVC for the real thing.
According to her, “INEC has gone the extra mile to gather the phone numbers of owners of uncollected PVCs in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi to send bulk SMS to them.”
On November 11, off-cycle elections for governor will take place in the states of Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi.
Prof. Agu also assured the media that all non-sensitive election materials had been received and would be given to the proper local government areas in time for the upcoming election in Imo.
The police are on top of the security situation, and their Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security will design the exercise’s security infrastructure.
“INEC is ready to conduct a credible, free, and fair Election once again,” Agu said. (NAN)
