Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have appealed to Bayelsans to vote and protect against manipulation by opposing parties during the November 11 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State.
These individuals voiced their support during Tuesday’s Grand Finale of the Bayelsa State PDP Gubernatorial Campaign at the Ox-bow Lake Pavilion Swali in Yenagoa.
The party leaders, dismissing rumors of violence that could cause voter apathy, asked the electorate to take a stance against forces that will not allow their votes to count during the exercise.
While presenting the party flag to Governor Duoye Diri, the current incumbent, PDP Acting National Chairman Amb. Iliya Damagum urged the voters of Bayelsa to decide their own fate and reelect the governor who has brought prosperity to the state.
He explained that the flag he presented to Diri symbolizes for triumph, progress, and peace, and is a symbol of everyone’s future success.
For this reason, Damagum called on Bayelsans to vote PDP again in Saturday’s election, saying that it was the only party that had given the state and the South-South zone the chance to produce the President of the country in Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
Diri was hailed as a symbol of peace, development, and prosperity by Agbu Kefas, chairman of the PDP Bayelsa Governorship National Campaign Council and governor of Taraba State.
Kefas claimed that his Bayelsan colleague cared about the well-being of his people because of the work he had done.
Senator Aminu Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto State and current member of the National Assembly, echoed the praise for Diri’s moral fiber and professional acumen.
Prince Uche Secondus, a former PDP national chairman, has said that President Jonathan’s and the Ijaw nation’s support for Governor Diri is proof of the latter’s victory.
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, who spoke on behalf of the PDP governors, praised Diri for being a humble and dedicated individual committed to repositioning the state.
Senator Seriake Dickson, the outgoing governor of Bayelsa, endorsed his handpicked successor and second in command and urged voters to give them another term in office.
He praised Diri, saying the governor had done a great job developing the state by expanding upon his predecessor’s initiatives and starting new ones.
At the function, Diri made the following statement: “They say we only completed projects that we inherited.” However, my administration built and finished the Unity Bridge in Nembe, the hometown of my APC opponent.
“Today, one of the best dual carriage roads in Yenagoa, the Glory Drive, for which they collected money in billions and abandoned, has been completed and inaugurated by my administration.”
