A 300-Level female student of Bayero University Kano has been kidnapped by gunmen suspected of being kidnappers.
Sakina Bello, a student from Kano, was taken on Tuesday in the Janbulo and Rijiyar Zaki parts of the city.
The kidnappers allegedly phoned her relatives on Wednesday morning and demanded a ransom of N100 million.
DSP Abdullahi Haruna, the spokesman for the Kano State Police Command, verified the event when contacted.
He said that around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, the police received a report of a missing person and immediately began investigating the case.
He stated that the Command has subsequently swung into action in an attempt to locate her.
Also commenting on the issue, the BUK spokesman, Lamara Azare, said the university has not been on session since July and will resume on November 1.
“We are not on session. We have no student residing on campus at the moment, and we have not received any incident of abduction of any student,” he said.
