Adeleke Adeyinka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government, was shot dead on Saturday by unknown gunmen.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. in the Jide Jones area of Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Reports indicate that the assailants arrived in a tinted vehicle, after which one of them stepped out, shot Adeyinka at close range, and proceeded to smash his head until he died.

A viral video seen by journalists shows the victim lying face up in a pool of blood.
A source who requested anonymity said, “The killing happened around 2 p.m. It took everyone by surprise.
No one is certain if it was a cult-related attack or something else. People are already closing their shops, and the atmosphere here is tense. It’s very sad.”
Adeyinka, a former youth leader of Abeokuta South Local Government, was contesting for the post of councillor for Ward 15 in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 16.
He was also known to be a transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State APC Youth Leaders’ Forum has condemned the killing in a statement signed by Comrade Kabir Odedairo, the youth leader of Abeokuta South, and the forum’s PRO, Timothy Odedina.
“The Ogun State APC Youth Leaders’ Forum is deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal murder of Adeleke Adeyinka, the APC candidate for Ward 15, Abeokuta South, who was killed in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta,” the statement read.
“We strongly condemn this senseless and horrific act, which has left our community shaken and grieving.
That Adeleke was shot and stoned to death by unknown assailants in a tinted car is particularly disturbing and calls for urgent intervention by security agencies.”
The statement described Adeyinka as a “promising young leader” and “a dedicated party member,” urging the police to launch a swift investigation and enhance security patrols to prevent further violence.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said the command was not yet aware of the incident.
The killing has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents calling for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
