Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be cultists, have shot and killed a disabled man, Mutiu Akinbami, popularly known as Igor, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The incident occurred around 6:13 p.m. on Friday at the Brewery bus stop and Olomoore Junction area of the metropolis.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, who were driving a tinted Toyota Hilux, targeted Akinbami as he rode on a motorcycle with his daughter.
They opened fire on him and fled the scene after completing their mission.
Sources revealed that Akinbami, a former councilor in Abeokuta North Local Government Area, had been trailed from his residence in the Olomoore Federal Housing Estate. After the attack, the suspects reportedly made a detour at Brewery Junction.
The attack has sparked reactions among residents of the area, with some alleging that Akinbami was a prominent member of the Eiye secret cult during his lifetime.
Efforts to confirm details of the incident from the Ogun State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
The incident has heightened concerns about cult-related violence in the state, with calls for increased security measures to curb the menace.
