    Gurara water dam to benefit local communities

    MakuThe Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku has expressed confidence at the on-going projects by the Federal Government’s determination, to make the Gurara Water Falls beneficial to the local communities in Kaduna State and its environs.

    The Minister made the remarks at the on-set  of the National Good Governance Tour in the State.
    Mr. Maku who was represented by his Special Assistance, Media, Mr. Kinsley Osadolor, praised the wisdom in the expanded scope of work in the area of electricity and irrigation which will benefit the local communities and expressed confidence at the high potential for wealth generation for the people.

    The Minister also assured of the relentless support of the Federal Government for the project, hoping that the collaborative momentum between the State and Federal Government will continue to yield fruitful results in the State.
    Earlier, the Coordinating Director, Gurara Water Management Authority, Ibrahim Babaji,  informed that the Dam was conceived in 2001 and commissioned in  2007, with water transmitted to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to complement the  one from the Lower Usuma Dam.

    Mr. Babaji also noted that the irrigation project of the dam and construction of two roads for the local communities to give access to goods and services are on-going, adding that the 8 Million cubic metre embankment dam,  is estimated to cost 54. 4 Billion Naira, with completion date put at December, 2014.
