Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has inaugurated the principal officers of the 7th session of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers.
Those inaugurated by the governor at the Exco Chamber of the Government House, Umuahia, include HRM Eze Eberechi Dick, Eze Udo 1 Mgboko Ngwa Amiri in Obingwa Local Government Area as the chairman, first deputy chairman, HRM Eze (Dr.) Godwin Chijioke Chionye, Uzo 1 of Otuzor Ibere in Ikwuano Local Government Area; and HRM Eze S.A. Okorie, Ujurieze 2of Ebem in Ohafia Local Government Area as the second deputy chairman.
Speaking at the event, the governor said that the state holds in high esteem the sacred position of traditional rulers as they play vital roles in the preservation of peace in the society.
The governor recalled the key roles played by many traditional rulers during the dark days of kidnapping in the state pointing out that their collaboration with the state government was essential in winning the war.
The council of traditional rulers, according to him, is the official organ for coordinating between the traditional rulers and the government, stressing that it is important that those who preside over the council should be capable of providing the needed collaboration.
The governor who said he believes that those on the saddle would continue on the good job of their predecessors and carry the council to higher frontiers, implored them to preserve the sanctity of their offices while urging other traditional rulers to respect the new officers.
Responding, Eze Eberechi Dick thanked the governor for finding them fit to serve and assured him of their loyalty as well as to work as a team.
