    TULSA, OK–(Marketwired – Apr 9, 2014) – Hogan Assessment Systems, a global leader in personality research and leadership development, today announced details of its extensive thought leadership at the Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology’s 29th Annual Conference, SIOP 2014. The three-day conference will take place at the Hawaii Convention Center and Hilton Hawaiian Village from Thursday, May 15 to Saturday, May 17, 2014.

    The annual SIOP conference is dedicated to the growing field of industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology. The event is designed to give industry professionals the opportunity to network with and learn from one another while keeping up with the latest advancements in I-O research and practices. Hogan will return to the conference, playing a prominent role as an exhibitor and sponsor of this year’s event. In addition, Hogan’s executives and subject matter experts will share the company’s cutting-edge research and thought leadership during 20 educational sessions, including:

    • From Leader’s Personality to Employee Engagement (Thursday, May 15 at 9:30 a.m.) – During this symposium, Robert Hogan, president, and Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, vice president of Research and Innovation for Hogan Assessments, will present on how managers’ personalities affect the workforce, highlighting new research conducted with global technology, hospitality and retail firms.
    • Evidence-Based Practice in Pre-Employment Integrity Testing: Validity, Applicability, and Usability (Thursday, May 15 at 11:00 a.m.) – In this forum, Dara Pickering, research consultant for Hogan Assessments, will address the validity of integrity testing using newly collected job applicant data.
    • A Critical Review of Mechanical Turk as a Research Tool (Thursday, May 15 at 11:00 a.m.) – During this discussion, Blaine Gaddis, product research senior manager, and Jeff Foster, vice president of Science for Hogan Assessments, will explore Amazon’s crowdsourcing application, Mechanical Turk (MTurk), focusing on the advantages and disadvantages of using MTurk as a data collection tool for psychological research.
    • Evaluation of Leadership Development Coaching: The Impact of Personality (Thursday, May 15 at 11:30 a.m.)  – Led by Heather Bolen, research consultant for Hogan Assessments, this session will discuss the factors that relate to perceptions of leadership coaching effectiveness, specifically personality characteristics and the understanding of value and usefulness.
    • Personality’s Flynn Effect: Recent Upward Trends in Personality Scores (Thursday, May 15 at 1:30 p.m.) – During this symposium, Blaine Gaddis will share recent research examining score drift in personality assessment scales around the world. 
    • The Emergence of Abusive Supervisors: What Makes Them Mean? (Thursday, May 15 at 2:00 p.m.) – Research consultant for Hogan Assessments, Kimberly Nei, will highlight emerging research surrounding abusive supervisors and hostile actions taken against subordinates focused on leader characteristics, leader self-concepts and environmental forces.
    • Investigating the Presence of Nonlinear Personality — Job Performance Relationships (Friday, May 16 at 8:30 a.m.) – International research manager for Hogan Assessments, Steve Nichols, will discuss evidence of curvilinearity in Big Five personality scales and their relationships with job performance. Implications for the use and application of personality-based assessment will be discussed. 
    • Holistic Challenges, Narrow Answers: Can We Collaborate to Drive Results? (Friday, May 16 at 9:00 a.m.) – During this discussion, Robert Hogan will join a panel to share insight and practical advice for how I-O, as a field, can combine differing areas of expertise to provide integrated solutions for organizations.
    • The Dark Side of Personality and Leadership (Friday, May 16 at 9:00 a.m.) – Vice president of Science for Hogan Assessments, Jeff Foster, leads this session spotlighting a number of novel evolutions in the research of personality’s “dark side” as it relates to leadership.
    • Not All Shall Lead: Selection and Development for Unique/IC Jobs (Friday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m.) – Corporate solutions consultants for Hogan Assessments, Jackie VanBroekhoven and Jocelyn Hays will focus on the issues surrounding employee selection and development for unique, non-leadership and/or high-level individual contributor jobs and the research evidence that differentiates these roles.
    • Going Global with Assessments: Geographic Findings and Benchmarking Challenges (Friday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m.) – During this forum, Dara Pickering will present research examining differences in personality across geographic regions and discuss the techniques used to identify regional variability and implications for existing benchmarking strategies. 
    • Comparing Apples to Oranges: Leveraging Mapping to Drive Survey Action (Friday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m.) – Global Alliances consultant for Hogan Assessments, Darin Nei, will share new work in the area of synthetic validation and how it works to bridge selection and development to make data more actionable.
    • Multilanguage Supply & Demand in the Assessment Industry (Friday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m.) – During this panel session, Jeff Foster will discuss the short supply and increasing demand for off-the-shelf assessments to serve multinational client organizations in multiple languages and its impact on the assessments space.
    • IGNITE and Discuss: Perspectives on High Potentials (Friday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m.) – In this multi-speaker session followed by a panel discussion, managing partner of Hogan Assessments, Dr. Rodney Warrenfeltz, will present one of nine fast-paced presentations on high potential assessment and development. 
    • Predicting Emotionally Competent Behavior: Developing a Model and Predictor Scales (Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 a.m.) – Heather Bolen, research consultant for Hogan Assessments, will explore research developed to help organizations identify job applicants with skills for managing emotions. Bolen will share the research model and scales and the relationship between these scales and a variety of work outcomes.
    • Emotional Intelligence Competencies and Leadership Status in Real-World Organizations (Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 a.m.) – During this session, Renee Yang, research consultant for Hogan Assessments, will share details of the company’s study, using an applied sample of job applicants and incumbents, that was designed to explore the individual differences in Emotional Intelligence (EI) competencies between leaders and non-leaders.
    • Training to Detect Fit Through Employee Interviews (Saturday, May 17 at 8:30 a.m.) – Kimberly Nei will examine the impact training has on assessing fit in an interview context, following research that indicates that people are better at identifying low fit as moderated by the applicant’s experience and social skills.
    • The Narcissistic Leadership Paradox: Causes, Consequences, and Responses (Saturday, May 17 at 9:00 a.m.) – Dr. Robert Hogan, president of Hogan Assessments, will discuss implications of narcissism as it relates to leadership.
    • Lost in Translation: Identifying and Managing High-Potentials Around the World (Saturday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m.) – During this panel, Michael Sanger, Jocelyn Hays and Jackie VanBroekhoven will discuss the multiple viewpoints on how to best identify, develop, manage and retain high-potential employees in global organizations.
    • Searching for the Perfect Translation: Test Translation Best Practices (Saturday, May 17 at 12:30 p.m.) – International research manager for Hogan Assessments, Steve Nichols, will share examples and lessons learned in the process of translating psychological instruments to help provide an effective and systematic process which can be used for test translation and translation review.
