The Bishop of the Diocese of Kubwa Anglican Communion, Abuja, Rt. Rev. Duke Akamisoko has said state governors must be held responsible for security in their respective states.
He said Nigerian leaders must learn to be disciplined and to resign from their positions when it becomes clear they cannot solve the problem of the people they preside over.
Addressing a pre-Synod press conference in Abuja yesterday, Rev Akamisoko explained that leadership comes with huge responsibilities and anyone who could not discharge such duties has no reasons to remain in power.
“If you cannot fulfill the responsibility that goes with the office that you occupy, all you need to do is to leave and go home”, he said.
The clergyman absolved President Goodluck Jonathan of blame over the insurgency in the North East, saying the governors of the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe had no reasons to remain in office.
His words: “The governors are elected to solve the problems of their states. The president lives in Abuja, although he has supporting role to play but we must hold the state governors accountable. To say the security of Bayelsa, Kaduna is in the hands of Jonathan, and then we should not have the governors”.
Speaking on the church’s plan for a university, the Bishop said the Nigeria University Commission (NUC) has given its approval for a take-off. He added that during the 2nd Synod which comes up next week in Lugbe, Abuja, an appeal fund of N2 billion will be launched for the school to begin academic intake.
He promised that the tuition fees would be fair and reasonable relative to the cost of sustaining the institution but not absolutely cheap, stressing that tertiary education is expensive.
Bishop Akamisoko, however, assured that indigent students will be offered scholarships.
