The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Health Institutions, Amos Magaji, has called for sustained financial investment in federal teaching hospitals across Nigeria.
This call aligns with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aimed at improving healthcare for citizens.
Magaji made this appeal during an oversight visit of his committee members to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo.

He emphasized the necessity of increased funding for the health sector, given the primary role of health institutions in the country.
He praised the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Silas Ochejele, and his management staff for their commitment to the hospital’s growth, noting the significant achievements recorded within a year.
Magaji assured that he and his committee members would work to secure more funds for developing the necessary infrastructure and medical equipment to meet public expectations.
“We are glad to be in Otukpo today to see things for ourselves. We don’t want to depend on second-hand information on the true condition of the Federal University Teaching Hospital Otukpo,” Magaji stated.
He pledged the full support of the Federal House of Representatives, promising that appropriate incentives would be provided through interactions with other key stakeholders in Abuja.
Magaji also encouraged the hospital staff, whom he described as foundation staff, to work as a team despite current working conditions, noting, “We have seen how the environment is looking and we will continue to monitor the progress.
So, as foundation staff, you all have the opportunity to write your name in gold.”
Prof. Silas Ochejele, welcoming the committee, expressed gratitude to the federal government for establishing the teaching hospital in Otukpo, which has significantly improved medical services in the state.
He thanked the House Committee on Health Institutions for their visit, believing it would help reposition the hospital for the betterment of the people.
