In the aftermath of the killing of 16 soldiers on a peacekeeping mission, several houses in the coastal and rustic Okuoma community, in the Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, were engulfed in flames.
According to a statement by the Director of Information at the Defence Headquarters, Tukur Gusau, the military personnel, including a lieutenant colonel, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers, were killed by youths on Thursday during a peace mission to Okuoma community.
General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.

In a video posted by Channels Television, black smoke could be seen billowing from some buildings in the community, indicating the intensity of the fires.
Fear of reprisal attacks from military personnel has led some residents of the community to flee.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has condemned the incident, promising to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
