PALO ALTO, CA–(Marketwired – Feb 4, 2014) – HP Autonomy (NYSE: HPQ) today announced a new cloud-based eDiscovery offering that provides law firms, partners and small and midsize businesses (SMBs) with a fast, easy and cost-effective path to leverage HP Autonomy’s market-leading eDiscovery platform.
HP eDiscovery OnDemand delivers the entire HP Autonomy eDiscovery platform — including processing, early case assessment, review and production — as a secure cloud offering. Legal teams can quickly and easily upload case files and manage the complete eDiscovery process with a single platform and vendor. The new offering combines the best elements of a full-service outsourced offering and an on-premises solution, for an optimal mix of control, speed, simplicity and cost savings.
A contemporary approach to eDiscovery
Despite many advances in the eDiscovery market over the past several years, very little has changed in terms of how this software is delivered. Historically, two primary options were available — a fully hosted, third-party model that inherently delivered less control over the data and process, or a licensed on-premises model that places an IT burden on the organization to install, manage and maintain the software.
However, what has changed is the increasing strategic importance and complexity associated with eDiscovery. Legal teams today face increasingly short deadlines, multiparty collaboration on cases — both inside and outside the organization, constant pressure to rein in costs, and ongoing growth in data volumes and information complexity.
Traditional eDiscovery tools have not kept pace with these dynamics, and organizations have been forced to compromise on control or cost and hassle. Additionally, many technologies only solve part of the problem and thus require multiple handoffs to other systems that increase time and cost. These systems also fail to recognize concepts and patterns in increasingly essential unstructured, human information, and are often vulnerable to security risks when sharing information amongst legal teams.
HP eDiscovery OnDemand addresses these challenges with a solution that is purpose-built for eDiscovery in the modern era. With HP eDiscovery OnDemand delivered via HP Autonomy’s private cloud, organizations will benefit from its inherent simplicity, economies of scale and security.
HP Autonomy’s private cloud undergoes regular third-party audits testing operational process, personnel and security — something other eDiscovery “hosting” vendors avoid.
HP eDiscovery OnDemand also provides access to HP’s industry-leading eDiscovery software and analytics, which have been battle tested with some of the world’s largest and most demanding organizations across a wide variety of industry verticals.
“Software-as-a-Service offerings like this one empower legal professionals to focus on managing the eDiscovery process and analyzing and reviewing information,” said Alan Winchester, partner at Harris Beach, a New York-based law firm ranked one of the top law firms in the United States by the National Law Journal. “For firms without robust IT departments, it grants them the experts to manage the technology operations and security.”
Key elements of HP eDiscovery OnDemand include:
- Pre-established templates and workflows for a quick start
- Rapid, on-demand document upload and processing
- Access to leading-edge technology and analytics based on HP IDOL technology
- End-to-end functionality, including processing, analysis/ECA, review and production, as well as workflow, collaboration and reporting tools
- Data hosting in a secure, SOC2 audited, environment that conducts regular penetration testing and vulnerability analyses
- Production into commonly accepted formats
“Organizations are rethinking how they perform eDiscovery and are increasingly looking to cloud-based technologies to take advantage of the simplicity, economies of scale, efficiency and security that these solutions offer,” said Mike Sullivan, general manager, eDiscovery and Information Archiving, HP Autonomy. “As an industry leader in both cloud-based offerings and eDiscovery technology, HP Autonomy is well positioned to capitalize on this trend by delivering a unique offering for organizations of all sizes.”
This announcement coincides with the launch of HP eDiscovery 8.1, which includes technology specifically designed to enable the HP eDiscovery OnDemand delivery model. The release also includes enhancements that supplement the historical versions of the HP eDiscovery product plus the new on-demand model, such as enhanced data ingestion capabilities, deeper quality control tools, and further-advanced analytics and visualization.
