Sporting CP manager, Ruben Amorim has come out to admit that he could take some of his current players to Manchester United next summer. This is coming as the coach prepares to start life at Old Trafford, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, he already said he won’t be signing any Sporting player in January, but he cannot guarantee that he won’t go for them in the summer.
Amorim added that the club has very good players, but he’ll wait to see what the future holds.
His words, “I won’t be signing [Sporting players] in January, that’s what I said. I don’t know about the summer. The main thing is to hold on until the summer [laughs]. After that, we’ll see, Sporting’s players are very good players. I don’t know. We’ll see.”
On his time with Sporting, “Regarding how things went here, there were titles that we could have won, I’m thinking about the Super Cup, we didn’t win the Portuguese Cup, but it ended up going well and the impact we had, I would say we should have won more, but no one would have expected us to win so much.”
On Pedro Goncalves, “He can play in any team in the world and with any player, because he is a great player,” he said. “I could take him anywhere. He is very funny, which improves the personal relationship. But he is also very intelligent, but he also has to focus on Sporting because we have to be champions this year. But he could play in any team in the world.”
On MUFC, “I’m ready, of course I’ll have to think a lot about the words. This conference I had there will be much more basic. But I’ll have to be very intelligent. Manchester United is always the club that people talk about the most there. But I’m not worried either. English won’t be my biggest problem.”
WOW.
Manchester United Football Club, commonly referred to as Man United or simply United, is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. The club competes in the Premier League, the top division in the English football league system.
Nicknamed the Red Devils, they were founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, but changed their name to Manchester United in 1902. After a spell playing in Clayton, Manchester, the club moved to their current stadium, Old Trafford, in 1910.
Alex Ferguson and his assistant Archie Knox arrived from Aberdeen on the day of Atkinson’s dismissal, and guided the club to an 11th-place finish in the league. Despite a second-place finish in 1987–88, the club was back in 11th place the following season. Reportedly on the verge of being dismissed, Ferguson’s job was saved by victory over Crystal Palace in the 1990 FA Cup final.
The following season, Manchester United claimed their first UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup title. That triumph allowed the club to compete in the European Super Cup for the first time, where United beat European Cup holders Red Star Belgrade 1–0 at Old Trafford. The club appeared in two consecutive League Cup finals in 1991 and 1992, beating Nottingham Forest 1–0 in the second to win that competition for the first time as well.
