1ronaldo-300x216Cristiano Ronaldo says he wants to play for Real Madrid for another decade and retire when he is 41 years old.

Ronaldo, 31, won UEFA’s Best Player in Europe award on Thursday after a year in which he had won the Champions League with Madrid and Euro 2016 with Portugal.

Marca recently reported that Madrid will look to extend the forward’s contract, which is due to expire in June 2018, for at least two further seasons and Ronaldo said: “That’s what I want.

“I’m in the best club in the world and I want to finish in this club at 41. Now I need to be calm but I’m aim is to extend my contract and stay in the club that I like the most.”

Ronaldo scored 51 goals and set up 13 in 48 games in all competitions for his club last season.

“I want to maintain myself at this level,” he said. “I will work to achieve it as I’ve done every year. I don’t need to look at anyone else, I motivate myself. What I want is to be competitive for another year.”

Real finished runners-up to Barcelona in La Liga but lifted their 11th European title, with Ronaldo converting the winning penalty in the shootout to secure victory over Atletico in the final.

Ronaldo then captained Portugal at Euro 2016 as they secured their first ever major trophy, although he picked up an early injury during the victory over hosts France in the final.

“From a collective standpoint, it was the best season of my career,” Ronaldo said. “I’m proud that I won the European Championship and the Champions League. I cried after I won both. But I want to win more titles. I want to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League and go to the World Cup with Portugal.”

Ronaldo, Real’s all-time top scorer with 362 goals in 342 appearances, is starting his eighth campaign with Los Blancos.

He is expected to make his first appearance of the season at home to Celta Vigo on Saturday after recovering from a knee injury.
